TRAVELLING EXPOSITON LAUNCH
UNESCO PARIS (26th June
2019)
Metropolitan Emmanuel of France
Ladies and Gentlemen, Good after
noon
On behalf of the Interfaith
Alliance for Safer Communities, it is a true pleasure and an honor to
welcome you to the opening of the travelling exposition on online
child sexual abuse and exploitation.
Our respective communities
are an integral part of the changing face of the world we live in.
Advancements in science, health services, technologies, education and
economies have
been a positive product of
globalization. But, with these
advancements, came aninadvertent price that communities are paying
(whether directly or indirectly). This price includes the spread of
crimes that impact their safety and security, such as online child
sexual abuse, radicalization and violent extremism, etc.
We believe that Faith leaders,
their being the first line of defense and counsel in their
communities, have to be able to keep up with this advancement, and
their ability to be reinforced to stay relevant to the needs of their
communities.
The Interfaith Alliance for Safer
Communities was launched in 2018, with a specific purpose, which is
to empower faith leaders to take meaningful and sustainable steps; to
move beyond dialogue towards action. The Alliance has adopted two
themes so far, Child dignity in the digital world in its inaugural
year, and hate crimes this year.
The first forum, titled “Child
Dignity in the Digital World”, which was held in Abu Dhabi in 2018
and was attended by 450 participants representing faiths, NGOs,
international organizations and civil society. During the forum, the
travelling exposition was unveiled. The exposition aims to increase
awareness of online child sexual abuse and exploitation in a visual
and interactive manner.
As part of its world tour, the
exposition has been displayed at the World Economic Forum in Davos at
the UN Human Rights Council General Assembly in Geneva. After its
stop in Paris, it is scheduled to visit other cities such as New
York, Nairobi and Moscow.
On behalf of myself and the
Interfaith Alliance for Safer Communities, I would like to express my
gratitude to UNESCO as well as the Permanent Delegation of the United
Arab Emirates to UNESCO for their support in organizing this
exhibition.
I now invite you explore the
exposition and see how our communities are impacted by online child
sexual abuse and exploitation.
